Upgrading the RAM in the Asus Eee PC 1000HE
I just upgraded the RAM in my Asus Eee PC 1000HE to 2GB a few moments ago and while I haven't had a chance to run any more tests on what the additional RAM can do, I will say that it was a quick and painless process.
Upgrading the RAM in an Asus Eee PC 1000HE
If you've ever upgraded the RAM in your home PC or another notebook than upgrading the RAM in this netbook should be really simple. I found this video on YouTube which can give you a step by step walk through if you need it:
If you don't want to watch the five minute video just follow these steps: Remove the battery, take out the two screws from below the battery and swap out the RAM (push out on the clips). Just remember to press F2 when the computer is loading up to bring up the BIOS. You should see the increased RAM on the first BIOS screen. From there, press F10 to save the settings and you're all done (if you don't go into the BIOS and save the new info it won't recognize the change so make sure you do this).
Picking the RAM
I bought this 2GB by Crucial for less than $25 and it worked like a charm. There are other netbook RAM deals that I've posted about before if you prefer another manufacturer. You can pick up the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE for less than $400 on Amazon.
. I'll report more after I spend some more time with the upgraded netbook.
What type of performance increase have you seen from upgrading the RAM in your netbook to 2GB?

I suppose that changing out the RAM in the Asus 900 HD XP would be exactly the same???
TIA for anyone that knows for sure.
I just upgraded my 900 (Celeron, sshd, XP Home) to 2 Gig, and used the exact same procedure.
Thanks, Chris! Just upgraded the RAM in my new netbook, and you made it a snap!
You’re very welcome Emily. Enjoy your 1000HE – it’s a great netbook!
Chris, How is the new RAM going?
Thinking of getting the 1000HE or maybe the new 1008HA
Anyone got any comments on either?
Peter
Hey Peter,
Actually I got the 1008HA and I’m loving it
i upgraded my Asus eee pc 1000he to 2gb of ram but still only reads 1gb…any thoughts on why?
Hey Stephen,
I’m certain it’s this step you missed from the above article:
“Just remember to press F2 when the computer is loading up to bring up the BIOS. You should see the increased RAM on the first BIOS screen. From there, press F10 to save the settings and you’re all done (if you don’t go into the BIOS and save the new info it won’t recognize the change so make sure you do this).”
Let me know if that helps
Like Stephen I installed the 2GB RAM on my 1000-HE but may not have pressed F2. Now when I press F2 I see “Installed Size: 1024 MB” under System Memory on the BIOS page. Is there a way to fix this?
I did this successfully with the 900 but…now every once in a while after boot up and especially when I go to do something like open Firefox or the like, I get image crash i.e. everything is skewed, mouse disappears, it basically looks like snow on TV but in color. Anyone else had this happen?
My housemate said maybe something got jostled when I had the casing opened. Or the RAM isn’t secure? It was pretty in there, I thought.
Apparently the RAM modules have doubled in price over the past year.
Yea great website, but when I went to buy RAM for the 1000HE, it is 48 dollars and up!
