Toshiba NB255 Now Shipping Out without DDR3?

The recently announced budget priced Toshiba NB255 is now shipping out via Amazon.com for $299:

    Quick Specs:
Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz (supports DDR3 RAM)
1 GB DDR2 RAM (I wonder why the description says DDR2 - see here)
    250 GB Hard Drive
    10.1 Inch 1024x600 resolution screen
6 cell battery for 8 hrs battery life
    (see full specs)

The Toshiba NB255 is a brand new model that features the latest Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz which offers support for DDR3 RAM. I've contacted Toshiba to confirm that the netbook does ship with DDR3 but the description on Amazon states DDR2. In either case, with DDR3 or without this is sure to be a great netbook as Toshiba has created some of the best netbooks on the market.

The NB255 is OK but….it does not have or support DDR3, Win7 starter is absolutely bare-bones, the battery is no better than a full size laptop. Miss my NB205 that was “liberated” from my possession. You get what you pay for….almost 9hrs battery time with the NB205, about half that with the NB255. WinXP was better for the netbooks. I only use windows for a few functions, the rest of the time I use linux. I installed the 2Gb SODIM in both machines and both had 160Gb HDD. The NB205 was a more stout computer, better build quality. Should have bought the NB305 but the extra cost for stuff that costs the manufacturer zilch doesn’t make sense either.

I could not get the newer version of linux Ubuntu 10.10 netbook re-mix to install for some reason. Installed the older 9.10 version instead. Functions well for the most part but I needed the battery life which I did not get. I think I’ll give this to my mom and either get the NB305 or find an NB205 again.
