    Samsung N130 Now Shipping

Samsung recently announced three new netbook models - the N130, N140 and N510 and now the first of those three netbooks is available for $350.99 in Slate Blue:

    Samsung-N130

No image up on the website yet, but when the netbooks show up like this the images are usually up the next day. Here are the specs:

    CPU: 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270
    Display: 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixels
    OS: Windows XP Home
    Memory: 1GB (max: 1GB)
    Storage: 160GB, 2.5″ 5400rpm
    Connectivity: 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Ethernet
I/O: VGA, headphone, mic, 3 USB, SD card slot
    Webcam: 0.3MP
    Speakers: 1.5 W x 1
    Battery: 6 cell, 4000mAh
    Dimensions: 10.7″ x 7.4″ x 1.17″
    Weight: 2.82 pounds

I'm a little surprised by the weaker .3 megapixel webcam but when it comes to webcam's it's not like you're filming any movies with them and as long as Samsung sticks to it's roots the netbook will also have an amazing battery life too. I’m not clear on how this is different from the previous netbooks. Is it?

also the specs say 1GB max memory, how would it not be upgradeable to 2GB?

    3. Hugo Montenegro says:

It has become quite difficult to find a netbook without “features” like glossy surfaces and a glossy display that only look good if you never touch them. The N130 covers exactly that small part of the market, it’s the ideal choice for people who always wanted to have a netbook but don’t want to look like they swiped it from the wife’s purse. Besides filling that niche with a sober and pretty rugged business design, it’s the current top bang-for-the-buck offer.

The 1GB-limit for Win7 Starter Edition is merely a restriction for manufacturers – you can upgrade RAM yourself but the manufacturers are not allowed to ship the products with more than 1GB. A result of Intel and MS controlling a whole market.
