Blogeee is reporting that 3 new ASUS netbook models will be announced including the 1018p, 1016p and 1015p. (1018p pictured below)

This is unconfirmed; however, they believe the 3 models will be unveiled at CeBIT in Germany next week. Here are the details we know so far:

ASUS Eee PC 1018P: This model is thinner (just .7 inches thick!), and it's closest model comparison would be the Eee PC 1008P. It will feature an aluminum case, a fingerprint reader, a redesigned touchpad, USB 3.0 and a 10 hour battery.

ASUS Eee PC 1015P: This is probably an updated version of the Eee PC 1005P, but instead it will feature a matte display in a new aluminum case. The battery life should last 14 hours (like the Eee PC 1005P) and will have a redesigned wider keyboard.

ASUS Eee PC 1016P: Blogeee reports that this model is being introduced to specifically target business consumers and would compete with the HP Mini 5102 and Lenovo ThinkPad X100e. It will have a much different design than previous netbooks; however, will still feature a chiclet keyboard, aluminum case, and 14 hour battery.

Again, this is unconfirmed but going on the information we know now the most interesting model in the bunch has to be the ASUS Eee PC 1018P in my opinion. The .7 inch thin chassis, fingerprint reader and USB 3.0 functionality are all firsts in the netbook space, but that also probably will result in a higher price. I'll provide an update on this story after CeBIT so be sure to subscribe to the blog for more news in the future.

Yesterday I heard rumors of a possible Lenovo Thinkpad netbook. At the time I decided not to report on it because as you can see above the supposed netbook has a white shell around it (as opposed the the traditional black and only black colors in the rest of the Thinkpad line). But more evidence is mounting as the folks over at Thinkpad Today are confirming a release date for the new X100e Thinkpad netbook of January 5th.

I don't know if we can believe the release date yet, but I am beginning to believe that Lenovo will in fact at a netbook to it's Thinkpad lineup. I'm sure there are plenty of business professionals that get tired of lugging around their 4 - 5 pound T400's and T500's and instead would prefer to carry a 2 pound netbook instead.

What do you think? Will we see a Thinkpad netbook?

Meanwhile, for those of us that didn't want to wait their have been plenty of resources on the web providing information on how to build your own hackintosh netbook. Sadly, this desperate last step may come to an end as well when Apple releases it's next update to the Snow Leopard operating system. Apparently the next version of the OS is supposed to pull support for Intel Atom processors which are found in nearly every netbook on the planet. Fortunately, hackintoshers are a hardy bunch and I'm sure even this step won't stop people from finding a way around the update.

Question to Apple: Why don't you just make your own netbook and we can stop having to resort to desperate measures?

The Apple netbook is still an ever growing rumor and has been since late 2008. I even wrote an April fools joke post about the fabled netbook. I personally believe it's not a question of if we'll ever see an Apple netbook, but rather when we'll see an Apple netbook.

The netbook market has been growing so quickly that it's hard to ignore it. I know that Steve Jobs has been quoted as saying 'We just don't know how to make an inexpensive computer that's not a piece of junk'

The current rumor as of this posting is that Apple will release a tablet style touch netbook (one that wouldn't fold though). Now I personally can't see why this would be desirable though. Yah adding touch to a device is great, but typing is so much easier with a keyboard than a touch screen.

Feel free to browse the rest of our coverage on the topic here. But in the mean time I'll just keep enjoying my Eee PC 1008HA instead of losing sleep over it.

What do you think?

Digitimes is reporting that if the Asus Eee PC T91 does not sell well that Asus may put an end to future tablet based netbook plans. This makes some sense as I'm sure the factories that make tablet based netbooks have different manufacturing processes than standard netbooks and if there isn't enough volume of tablet netbooks being sold they won't want to waste money on bringing in anymore.

Is it just me or don't all businesses make decisions like these all the time? Not sure why this comes to a surprise as anyone but if you like the tablet netbook Asus has to offer be sure you buy it!

What do you think? Should netbooks stay traditional or do you like seeing tablet options? Sound off in the blog comments or in our netbook forums.

This is the biggest netbook rumor of them all - the Apple netbook. I know I've written about it on numerous occasions:

Here, here and as an April Fools joke - here.

But this latest rumor has been the most credible since the very first murmurs of an Apple netbook. China Times is reporting that the tablet will be due out in October and be available for $800.

The main point of concern here is the price tag though. At $800 can you really call this mystery machine a netbook? I suppose by making it a tablet, adding on additional features, perhaps some better graphics and a higher res screen Apple could stand to differentiate it enough from the fiercely competitive and price conscious netbook shoppers - but I'm still not convinced.

What do you think? If the rumor is true would you pay $800 for this?
