No new Asus or Acer netbooks until 2010, we pause in disbelief

Yes, it's true folks. In a stunning move there will be no new Asus or Acer netbooks released until next year! According to Digitimes both companies are holding off until Intel's new Pineview chipset becomes available in the first quarter of 2010. So this report may not be completely true but Digitimes is usually pretty accurate.

It's my opinion that they are holding off because beyond better HD support there isn't a whole lot else they can innovate on (perhaps thinner chassis, better battery life and touch screen?), but I still can't believe Asus - a company notorious for their uncanny ability to churn out new netbook models is finally taking a breath and sitting a few quarters out.

Ah well, at least we have the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA for $378 and who can't forget the sexy ASUS Eee PC 1008HA for $417. This should be enough to tide us over until 2010 though right? Check out our comparison post between the two by the way.
