Netbook Review iView 700NBII 7-Inch Windows CE
Choosing a netbook is a big decision. You need to do a large amount of research before you make the decision. After all, even with a budget model, you will be putting out no small amount of cash in order to make your purchase. If you are considering the iView 700NBII 7-Inch Windows CE Netbook for your next technology buy then you will want to read this review, before you front the cash. While this machine does have some good points, it is really only good for a limited set of users. If you want to know if you fall into that group, then read on.
The iView 700NBII 7-Inch Windows CE Netbook has a screen with a fairly low screen resolution. With only a 800 x 480 screen resolution, on a seven inch screen , you will not only not be enjoying anything in the realm of HD, but you will not be able to deal with streaming video well. So, if your plans involve spending quality time with Hulu, or a proprietary stations streaming web TV, then you may not find this machine will be able to meet your needs effectively. Even if you are not a big media lover, you will most likely not see a quality of viewing that you want.
The processor is a VIA VT8500 300Mhz CPU, which will deal with most business applications adequately. Just do not expect it to handle large and labor-intensive programs, such as Adobe Photoshop well. If your needs are only basic, then you may be happy with the processing power provided. Basically, expect this machine to stay within the traditional domain of a netbook, running applications and tools off of the web, and not from downloads.
The system is pre-loaded with the Windows CE operating system, which in addition to giving you an operating system, gives you a version of Microsoft Office pre-installed on it. This is good news, if you are ready to work, but bad news if you did not happen to need an office suite on your netbook. Some users have reported to that the office suite that comes with the iView 700NBII 7-Inch Windows CE Netbook is a bit spotty in its usage. Some users are reporting that it has very limited capabilities. So, do not expect to use it in place of a full-sized office suite. If you use it for the reading of files, and the making of simple edits, then you will be pleased, but other than that you may find yourself sorely disappointed.
On the whole, if you are thinking about this netbook, you should be in one very specific category, a user that will only keep their netbook for work purposes, who does not need to make major changes to documents on the road. If all that you need to do is keep connected to the office, and maybe download a new file once and a while, then this is a good option for your needs. The price, at $147.99, will be right for your needs. Otherwise, you should pass it on by in favor of other offerings.
