When you get a netbook you make an investment in your mobile technology. After all, even a budget friendly model will be an investment of at least $200 and you want to be able to keep it safe and sound. That way you can protect your investment and be sure to keep your netbook in as good of condition as you can for as long as you possibly can. A lot of the keeping your netbook in good working order has to do with your gear. You need to get your hands on a good bag with padding; a solid case and then you need to treat it right.

Best Netbook Bag Options

AmazonBasics Netbook Bag with Handle, Fits 7- to 10-Inch Netbooks, iPad, HP Touchpad (Black)

Best Netbook Case Options

Case Logic LAPS-111 10 - 11.6 -Inch Netbook Sleeve (Black)

8 - 10.1 inch Café in Paris Silver Gray Netbook Notebook Laptop Sleeve Bag Carrying Case for iPad, Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Samsung

Now, we can talk about the things you need to do. Just follow these few simple rules.

1.	Don’t leave your netbook next to a source of heat or cold. That is a very good rule for any electronic device. While we are at it, keep the same thing in mind for magnets.
2.	Don’t drop it. I know that it is easier said then done, but some minimizing behaviors, such as not leaving laptops by the edge or a table, and not trying to juggle your netbook in your hands with six other items. This will help your odds of not dropping greatly.
3.	Keep any and all liquids away from your machine.
4.	Do not keep it plugged in when you do not need to, as this can greatly damage your netbooks battery and decrease the usable life of your netbook. Just keep a wary eye on your charge times and you should be fine.

Now, you can keep your new netbooks as safe as they can be without a lot of stress or fuss.

Today were going to talk not about a specific netbook but Instead about what you, as a consumer, may want from a netbook in general. Because, and let's be honest here, there are a lot of netbook choices out there and if you want to get the best one you have to know what you're looking for. So today will go over some of the general traits that are found in good netbooks.

Screen size

Netbooks have smaller screens than laptops, and that is normal, but you will still want to make sure the screen size that will be good for you. If you have any vision impairment issues, you're prone to migraine headaches, or you just don't enjoy screen strain then you may want to err on the size of the larger screen.

Graphics quality

Well I'm not saying that you have to have a high-definition netbook it is always good to look at the graphics quality of machine you're buying. As graphics calling minimum's increase over time you want a machine that will be able to meet those minimums. You also don't want to find your favorite streaming TV shows look like boxes of polygons. Offer most netbooks this is not a problem because she said any netbook design for younger children, or netbooks in the altar budget category which maybe designed for work use only.

Memory capacity

Well it is true that netbooks do the majority of their stores on the cloud you still want to be able to get the most memory for your budget. After all some things just can't be stored in the cloud, for confidentiality reasons or because you will need them when you're working off-line. So when you're down to three or four more models that you want to choose between let memory be your guide if all other things are equal.

There you have it your general guide for to look for netbooks. Of course you always want more specific guidance on the individual models. After all something to look good on mind but have it user issues you may not be aware of. A good review can give you information you might not get anywhere else.

Mobile technology has been moving so fast that if you blink you just might miss a hot new device. While the technorati may spend a lot of their time and energy to figuring out what these new devices mean for the market most of us only need a much simpler handle on what is going on in order to figure out what technology we want to by, and which mobile options can be skipped. Today, we are going to suss out the difference between a netbook and an ultra book.

Let’s get the lowdown from one of the most popular online encyclopedia’s, Wikipedia. According to the netbook page a netbook can be defined as, “...a category of small, lightweight, legacy-free, and inexpensive laptop computers.

At their inception in late 2007 as smaller notebooks optimized for low weight and low cost — netbooks omitted certain features (e.g., the optical drive), featured smaller screens and keyboards, and offered reduced computing power when compared to a full-sized laptop. Over the course of their evolution, netbooks have ranged in size from below 5" screen diagonal to 12”. A typical weight is 1 kg (2–3 pounds). Often significantly less expensive than other laptops...”

Now, lets look at Ultrabook, which are defined as, “An Ultrabook is a new PC category defined by Intel. They feature reduced size and weight while retaining standard performance by using low-power Intel CULV processors with integrated graphics, solid-state drives, and unibody chassis.

Intel claims a trademark in the name Ultrabook. By this marketing initiative and an associated $300 million fund, Intel hopes to reinvigorate the PC market against rising competition from tablet computers, which are typically powered by rivaling ARM-based processors.”

Did that clear it up for you? If not, think about it this way; a netbook is smaller and less expensive than a conventional laptop and is built primarily for use on the web. An ultra book is like a thinner version of a traditional laptop, with more RAM than a netbook, and usually a significantly higher price tag.

Lets begin with the Targus Netbook Accessory Kit for 10.2" Netbooks because for about $14 this baby comes with all of the basic functional items that your target needs. It has case, a USB mouse and a USB hub. Think of it as ideal for a gift for a student or a co-worker.

Moving onto a less basic item you could give a Three Fan Cooling Pad and while at first that may seem like a odd gift, if you have ever sat for two or three hours with a netbook in your lap you understand why this is handy.

Need one more option? Then lets take a look at the movie buff's choice. Every once and a while the savvy netbook owner misses their optical drive, so why not give them one the External USB DVD/CD for Netbooks actually comes in at about $25 so it is a great choice that is still very budget friendly.

There you have it, three solutions that can get you through the holidays and save you a lot of stress and fuss in the gift selection process. Just be aware that if it is close to the holiday (four days or less) that you may want to buck up and pay for the expedited shipping, just to be sure it comes in time.

The holidays are rolling around and while that may leave visions of the warmth of a glowing fireplace and the familiar site of a decorated pine tree indoors, there is another side to the holidays. A much more sinister side know only as gift shopping.

Lets be honest, most of us do not know how to find that great gift for the people on our list. It can become a source of endless frustration for the majority of the people out there. You spend hours walking (or clicking) around to find what you need to buy. You hope that you make the right selection and then once the “Checkout” button has been clicked you can only wrap and wait. It’s exhausting.

Don’t worry. You do not have to that that this year. This year, if you know a person with a netbook you have a plan on hand and you can shop easily and without the anxiety of hoping that you get it right.

Now usually, I would tell you about individual accessories, but these are the holidays and you have to go big or go home. To that end today we are going to look at some kit options in three sizes.

Small

The Targus Accessory Kit for 10.2 Inch Netbooks is a great kit for a person you want to get a small gift for. It has a case for the netbook, a mini optical mouse with and a USB hub.

Medium

The My 1st PC Mini Netbook Accessory Bundle is a perfect mid-range gift. It is a bit bigger than the office secret santa size, but not quite big enough for any of the key players in your life. It comes with a mini-backpack for the netbook, a pair of headphones and a portable mouse.

Large

If you’re looking to go big then try this kit on for size. The Ultimate Netbook Accessory Kit for 10" Netbooks does come in at close to $100, but it has a cooling stand, speakers, a case, a DVD/RW Drive, and a wireless mouse. A s a bonus it comes with a games suite.

As it turns out the newest name in the netbook world is one of the older names in PC. Those of your who went to college in the late 1980's, or simply had a very progressive employer may actually have some living memory of the Amiga brand. For the rest of us the Amiga is nothing but an exhibit is the technology history museums of the future.

Or, at least it used to the. As it turns out the Amiga brand is getting read to dust off its own image and release a new netbook.

The Amiga system, with its distinctively minimalist operating system is getting ready to be released on a netbook that will give people who just want to get down to business without any fuss a serious option, as long as you do not have to worry too much about running software it is not a big issue. Remember folks, we're talking about a netbook here, you won't be running a great deal of software anyway.

This new line of Amiga is aptly named, “First Contact” and for a lot of younger users this could be their first contact with an Amiga ever. Hyperion, the company responsible for bringing back this classic operating system is calling the netbook the "Amiga IP".

Since this netbook is not slated to be released until next year we do not know everything about the specs, but we do know it will come in with 512MB of RAM and a final price of between $300 and $500. With this kind of RAM the system could be competitive, if it falls into the lower end of the price range. In the higher end the new Amiga IP would end up being a novelty item. Sure, it would have appeal to retro fans, but other users would go for the bigger machines with higher speeds for $500.

The world of netbook hardware got a boost in the very recent past as the folks over at Intel decided to quietly release a set of new Atom processors that were made with netbooks and nettops in mind. The chips were released without a lot of fanfare, which is a bit unusual for an Intel release. Enough about the way they were released, and lets talk about the actual hardware.

The N2600 and N2800 (for netbooks)

The Intel N2600 Atom chips will be able to run a speed of either at 1.6GHz or 1.86GHz. The unit has a thermal design power rating of less than 3.5W, which means that it runs without converting a great deal of its energy to heat. The Atom N2800 runs a bit faster and a bit hotter. The two speed choices for this chip are 1.86GHz or 2. Its thermal design power rating is 6.5W.

The D2500 and D2700 (for nettops)

The systems for nettops, or for those of you who are unfamiliar with the term a desktop style system that is designed primarily for web use, are a little beefier. The Atom D2500, runs at either1.86GHz or 2.13GHz with a TDP that is lower than 10W. The Atom D2700 runs at a higher speed of either 2.13GHz or 2.4Ghz, with an identical TDP rating of 10.

All of the chips listed have been given the ability of supporting up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, which is a good thing if you want a system that is very fast, well fast for a netbook. While the chips are designed with netbooks and nettops in mind there is really little that stops them from becoming a part of a tablet or even a smartphone. So, do not be too surprised if you see these chips showing up in other devices.

When you get a netbook you plan to take it on the go. That means that you need a way to get it from point A to point B without causing a lot of problems, or the arm strain that goes along with carrying something around all day in your hands. So, lets get you a good case.

Don't worry, we can find you one that will keep your new technology investment safe, no matter what your style is.

The Classicist

If you love a classic look and clean lines, without a lot of extra frills or layered pockets bulking things up then the Targus CityGear Netbook Case; is ideal for your needs. It has just the basics, in an all black bag, which means it will match anything from a suit to jeans and a T-shirt. This model holds bags up to 10 inches.

The Edge

If you are more about showing off your edge then try the Targus CityGear Netbook Case. This grey and black messenger bag has enough style to make you stand out from the crowd without making your look unprofessional. If you want to show off your style at work and on the social scene then this bag can give you the versatility that you need.

Extreme Appeal

If you want a bag that will show off your sporty side and handle all of the tough stuff that your day will throw at you then take a good look at the Moblie Edge. This rugged bag is a sporty red and black. The biggest bag yet, it can hold netbooks up to 13 inches. Though, it is probably not the image you want for the office, it is fun for travel, social uses and urban travels.

There you have it. Your three best choices in netbook cases. Of course, if you need a netbook to go with it you can look at our netbook comparisons page to find one that is right for your needs.

So, you want a netbook but your budget is more than a little bit strained right now. Don't worry it is a common problem. What with paying for trifles like your food and shelter you can often not have enough cash on hand to meet all of your technology needs. The question becomes what are going to do to meet your needs and still eat this month?

The solution is simple, get an ultra-budget model of laptop. These systems, which cost less than $100 on the whole, are perfect for computing on the go without a budget drain. Of course, they will not have the processing power of a high-end machine but they can help you to get the job done no matter where you are. Of course, not all of the budget models are created equal and you can end up with a real stinker if you do not do your homework before you buy one, but each minute that you spend researching your budget netbook options the greater of a chance you will have in getting a model that will do what you need without any major flaws.

Just be sure that you keep your expectations in the graphics department realistic. You probably are not going to get HD in this price range, but believe it or not people have existed happily for centuries before the advent of HD and you can too. Now lets talk about two of your better ultra-budget options.

The AUGEN OE-A736

This system, which comes in at $59 on Amazon, is a decent offering for the price. It comes equipped with the Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 operating system, which will be a little bit of a change for most current Windows users, but can offer a stable OS to work off of. The processor runs at 248 MHz which will be enough to get you going around the web, but if you plan on watching streaming video you may find yourself to be sorely disappointed but if you have work on the mind that will be more than enough. Plan on using USB or card based storage with this model since it only has 2 GB of storage built in and no optical drive to speak of. It does have a built in card reader, which is good news since you do need the storage space, though you could store on the cloud if you really want to.

The Visual Land V-Net VL-760-4GB-BLK

This system will cost you slightly more at $79 and comes with a little bit, but not much more, of an upgrade to your system specs. The memory on this model is doubled to 4 GB of internal flash memory, so if you need to store without peripherals and offline then this model may be your better choice. The 7" screen has a resolution of 800x480, which like the model above is enough to work, but may leave you upset if you really love your media. The system states four to six hours of battery life and that is accurate, so pack your cord on long days. The OS is Windows CE.
On the whole these are both great choices for a very small budget but if you want to shop around you can use our netbook comparisons page to find the machine of your dreams.
