Default Toshiba's new netbook looks pretty intriguing

As I wrote in an earlier post I'm personally a huge fan of the HP Mini 5101 but the only other netbook that could steal my heart away is the Toshiba NB205.

Althought it doesn't offer the high screen resolution I hear the battery life is insane...

Yah, I've heard some good things about the Toshiba netbooks but haven't tried one yet.

Are they at Best Buy?

Talking style turns heads

My wife hangs with pro tennis judges. At a recent meeting, she said the talk was about a good looking Toshiba. Style turns heads and, in tennis, turning heads is important.

The battery life is surprisingly good. However, Toshiba's netbook line (the mini NB205-N3XX series that come in multiple colors) has the same standard hardware as everyone else. An Intel N280 processor, 1GB of RAM, GMA 950, 160GB hard drive, blah, blah, blah, blah... People are reporting that they are getting around 8 hours of real world usage on a single charge though. We have some of these Toshiba netbooks on order as the higher ups want me to mess around with them and pass them out. The nice thing is that the keyboard uses an island chiclet style. However, I think I would recommend the Asus Eee PC 1000HA over this unless you absolutely wanted a Toshiba netbook.

I am not saying that it is bad. In fact, this netbook has received a couple of awards even though it was released not too long ago and it has been tempting me for awhile. That being said, it packs generic hardware which kind of makes it a ho-hum experience.

I bought an NB205 last week, once I discovered they were available at my local Staples. Compared to the Asus 1000HD I had returned earlier in the week, the battery life is MUCH better. I used both for over 2 hours on battery power, and while the Asus battery was nearly drained, the Toshiba battery still had plenty of juice.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Asus had a Celeron processor (not very power efficient compared to the Atom).

Yah, I've actually been speaking with Toshiba and they'll be sending me out an N205 to review soon.

I'll of course write an in depth review and share it on the blog as well.

Looking forward to it Chris!!

While I own and run an MSI Wind, I know myself well enough to know that this probably is the first netbook, but NOT the last for me, so I will pay close attention to emerging technologies. Let us know when you've got your review up!!

I played with an NB205 for the first time yesterday, and I was pretty impressed.

I absolutely LOVED the mouse/touch-buttons. They were easy to click, comfortable to use, and not at all awkward (like some other touch-buttons out there). I wish they were all made like this.
