Default operating system

i am very happy with my NB205. it suits my needs perfectly and i love how long the battery lasts. however, i am very unhappy with the limitations of windows seven starter.

i would upgrade to a better version of windows seven, but after doing some reading, i have decided that it is not better and would not do me much good. in my opinion microsoft increasingly creates subpar products.

i would like to have the capability to arrange my files as i wish rather than have then snap into one of a limited set of prearranged grids, and i would like to have an o.s. without this byzantine "libraries" nonsense on it. pardon me, but if i put a file on my computer, i want to know right off just where it is or is not being stored, and if i remove a file, i want to know that it is gone and not find vestigal remnants of it later.

can anybody suggest a different os that fits my needs and the general mold of windows, or an earlier version of windows that is still usable (even free, maybe)?

Well, you will want to stay away from Windows and pretty much any modern OS if you want to meet all of those needs. Every OS has, in some way, a libraries system allowing programs easier access to files. That is just the general nature of operating systems and you can't get away from it unless you want to go back to the old days (in that case you won't find an OS with the necessary drivers to run on current hardware anyway).

Additionally, Windows 7 provides you the information on where a file is stored, you can do away with the grid snapping system, and you can easily determine if a file was deleted or not.

I am not really sure what issues you are having but Windows 7 Starter is a terrible OS. However, Windows 7 Home Premium (and above) improves on that in every way, shape, and form. Windows 7 Home Premium (and above) is often considered to be the best Windows OS since XP. I have heard these statements not only from technically savvy circles but in general. It performs much better than the crap that was Vista while taking the benefits of XP and improving on them.

I see no reason not to upgrade to Home Premium over 7 Starter especially since you aren't going to find any modern OS (one released in the last 15 years) that doesn't have some sort of library system. Hell, even Windows 95 had that. You would have to revert back to Windows 3.1.1, some text driven Unix system, or an extremely old GUI Linux release.

The most important program that runs on a computer. Every general-purpose computer must have an operating system to run other programs. Operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers.

For large systems, the operating system has even greater responsibilities and powers. It is like a traffic cop -- it makes sure that different programs and users running at the same time do not interfere with each other. The operating system is also responsible for security, ensuring that unauthorized users do not access the system.

Window 7 ultimate is a good operating system, there is no bugs in this operating system Microsoft updating it periodically.
