"Still, Toshiba has advanced the netbook category in key respects."

I wonder what categories Toshiba's netbook has advanced. Could it be the hardware? Nope, runs the generic 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 10" 1024X600 screen, N280 processor, GM 950, 3 USB 2.0 ports, etc. What about the design? Well, not really. Chile styled keyboards are nice but they have been done in netbooks before, it isn't an advancement that Toshiba uses them as everyone is migrating to that keyboard format. The battery life? Well, that really isn't an advancement so much as it is stepping up to the competition (ie the Asus Eee PC 1005HA).

It is a nice review and the Toshiba NB205 looks like a nice netbook but I guess I fail to see how it advances anything.

Unhappy faint praise, late to netbooks

No comment on respect accorded the reviewer. His dissing of many hardware features in the netbook is remarkable only for his lack of understanding the netbook niche. Hardware comparisons as review will not do it.

The netbook by cost, size (portability) and battery life (all day computing) have niche function away from the desktop. The netbook has helped me become more organized, utilize free time for my computing and do more easily electronically what I had to do with a slew of paper notes. Where is his understanding of netbookery and what netbooking can do for you? See my thread on Taking Care of the netbook since it is so valuable to our computing life.

His review seems to equate netbooking with accepting cheap as an excuse forced on us by the economy. That's nonsense. I can afford any portable computer made but I choose the netbook. Lots of Apple fans are driving profits there. Ninety percent of us are still employed, still paying house payments, paying off credit cards and have savings, still living at an appropriate lifestyle level.

His review is late to the party and he brought along inappropriate party gifts.
