Default Tastes in music

I am curious to see what everyone's taste in music is here on Netbook Reviews. There will be no bashing of artists here even if you like Britney Spears. Sound off with some of your favorite artists/bands, albums, songs, genres, etc.

I listen to hard rock and metal only. I am not a fan of any other genre. I went through a phase where I was listening to artists from different genres from all over the world. Then, in 1994, I popped in Korn's self-titled debut album and have been into metal ever since. I am starting to stray from the hard rock genre simply because those bands are becoming generic radio rock (Drowning Pool, Staind, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, etc.).

My favorite artists/bands include Korn, Marilyn Manson, Lacuna Coil, Rammstein, Lamb Of God, Hatebreed, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath (both Ozzy and Dio era), Heaven & Hell, In This Moment, Slipknot, Metallica, The Union Underground, Spinal Tap, Static-X, Staind (all the way until 2001), Papa Roach (only their Infest album), Megadeth, Soulfly, Sonic Syndicate, Taproot (didn't like their latest album though), Mushroomhead, Job For A Cowboy, Disturbed, Slayer, All That Remains, Killswitch Engage, Soilwork, Five Finger Death Punch, All Shall Perish, Amon Amarth, Otep, Cold, Black Label Society, and many others.

Right now, my favorite song is "Head Crusher" by Megadeth. They had it for a free download a day or two ago (it is off of their yet to be released new album) and I haven't stopped listening to it. The song sounds better than anything off of United Abominations (which I actually liked) and returns Megadeth to its roots.

I also plan on going to the Rockstar Mayhem festival this year in Albuquerque, NM. It is being headlined by Marilyn Manson and Slayer, it also features a bunch of other bands in my list.

I grew up on church music so I have the hymn book memorized. Still like instrumentals of church music.

I buy original street music. Anybody who sets up on the street and puts out an original sound will get me for a customer if they put out a CD. I travel a lot so ethnic music from around the world grabs me.

I like the natural sounds of rain, wind, waves in the New Age genre.

Music? "Eclectic" doesn't even begin to cover it

I'm originally from Hawaii, but didn't get into a lot of Hawaiian music until I was gone for grad school and realized how much I missed the slack key sound. So there's a lot of Brother Iz and Kealii Reichel (along with old school stuff like the Beamer Brothers and Cecilio & Kapono) on my PMP.

Went to grad school at Oklahoma during the "New Country" wave, so there's some Garth Brooks and Tim Mcgraw, some Faith Hill.

I can do the AOR pop-thing: Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood fill my "American Idol" slot, I'm into Matchbox 20/Rob Thomas, Gin Blossoms. Grew up in the 70's with Hall and Oates, still dig that.

Old school blues: Robert Johnson and BB King, and their followers: Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton

My lovely Bride's the hard rock/metal head, so we share some Nine Inch Nails and Ozzy.

Old school rap: Run DMC and Public Enemy

Lastly, I used to work Community Theatre, so there's the soundtracks from Into the Woods, Chess, and Rent. Somewhere else there's Cabaret and Anything Goes.

Thank the gods for SD Cards

Man, you just opened a can of worms on this topic.

I am an ex-dj...starting collecting all types of music around 1978 when I was a kid and just into djing...I pretty much listen to anything except Country. Seriously. I prefer 80s, Top 40-ish, Dance, and most of all, remixes.

I have been creating remixes and megamixes since the early 1980s and now do so (in my spare time) with computer software.

If you are familiar with remixers, some of my favorites are Shep Pettibone, Moby (yes, he was a remixer/dj long before his hit cd), Johnny Vicious, Junior Vasquez, Hani, and some others.

Some of my favorite artists are:

Michael Jackson
Janet Jackson
U2
Madonna

I'm quite sick of the rap and r&b that has churned out since 1993...just so distasteful and nothing but samples (like everything...harmony, beats, instruments, etc) with some bozo singing "I'm gonna ____ and ____ you in da ____ while I ____ you dumb ____ because that's the way we ROLL...we roll...we rolll..."
