Default Update 2: Apple just killed Intel Atom support in OSX 10.6.2

Apple released OSX 10.6.2 and unfortunately Intel Atom support was killed off after all like initially reported. Sorry to get your hopes up with the news from the other day, but indeed it is true Apple has killed off Intel Atom support in it's latest version of OSX 10.6.2. What does this mean to you? [...]

Nothing. A 64-bit OS won't help a netbook except in 32-bit mode. iLife does nothing for a netbook. I don't put unauthorized OSes on my computers. Apple is not talking, as usual, so speculations don't mean anything.

I'm not buying Apple these days.

Apple keeps jumping around with their OS updates, it is as if they are doing the hokey pokey. I guess that is what it is all about.

Oh well. The advent of Windows 7 means that I have no motivation to turn my netbook into a Hacintosh. I will likely purchase an Apple computer once they come out with an Apple tablet. Then again, I keep waiting for Hell to freeze over as I think that may happen before an Apple tablet.

Default hackintosh

Let's back up and take a look at this headline language use. The use of kill may be a little extreme and a lot misleading.

The 10.6.2SL update does not support Atom along with a lot of other devices. The previous 10.6.1SL update does however support the Atom.

In the same way you might trumpet a headline that Asus's and Apple's built in batteries kill the after market battery business. You might say that Asus's use of a hard drive kills the mini PCI-e business. Nonsense.

Kill makes a better headline. I don't think a headline like Apple supports 47.3 percent of devices, down from 47.4 percent, would draw much interest.

Apple also killed the external heat sensor on the iMac. Okay, killed is too much. Apple changed the connector might be better. Apple uses the internal hard drive sensor now so any upgrade will require the same brand hard drive since there are no adaptors. If you use an external sensor the fans go crazy.

It has been widely reported that dropping the Atom support stops hackintoshing. That makes sense. If Apple doesn't stop the netbook hack, how can they argue in court to stop the Psystar hack or the iPhone hack?

In any case, my interest in Apple computers has died. I sold a MacBook off today.
