Default Asus Eee PC 1005HA New Bestseller

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA is blowing up the sales charts and is currently number 1 on Amazon for $389.99 with free shipping. Can't say I didn't see this coming though as I made a prediction at the end of June that the Asus Eee PC 1005HA would top the sales lists this month. For several [...]

I am not surprised by this. Despite having generic hardware, the 1005HA is a pretty solid netbook that last the entire day without needing to be plugged in. It was my netbook of choice until Gateway released their model and I imagine that I am going to sell that if HP's Mini 110XP (with the Broadcom chip) can live up to my expectations of smoothly playing 1080p video content.

Hi Chris...speaking of Asus...any chance you could create a nice matrix on the website that compares all/most of the Asus models? You had one before (I think) comparing 2 but I can no longer find it.

It would be nice to see some comparisons like:

screen size
keyboard size
weight
cpu speed/style
battery life
OS installed
ram included
hard drive style
hard drive size
# of USB ports
HDMI output?
Headphone output?
Mic input?

and maybe some other factors.

Thanks!

-Eric

Can you compare it to the 1005HE like your link here:

Would be very helpful!

In fact, it would be nice to see such a matrix in each vendor's section...this way I could print out the latest Dell matrix and Acer matrix and Asus matrix, etc. and compare.

Anyone have any thoughts on this model vs the 1008HA?

The 1005HA is definitely the better choice. It packs the same hardware except it comes with a removable 6-cell battery that can push the unit to 9 hours of real world usage while the 1008HA lasts for about 4.5 hours of real world usage on a single charge. The 1008HA is the slimmer of the two but its port covers make it an annoyance when trying to access USB port (or when using a wireless mouse with a USB receiver).

Get the 1005HA. Not only will it truly go all day without needing to be charged but it is about $15-$20 less than the 1008HA.

The only other thing to consider about the 1005HA is that it will be a little thicker than the 1008HA. I went with the 1008HA to maximize how small and thin it was.

I will be doing more comparison posts in the future though as it sounds like you like them.

That was the main praise around the 1008HA. Just as a joke, I sent one up to my direct boss (he has a sense of humor unlike other branch managers) through the office mail. I didn't send it in a full size manila envelope like in the MacBook Air commercials. It actually used a smaller envelope that we often send CDs through. He was thoroughly impressed by the small size, so was I. There were other branch managers in the meeting as well. He showed it off and then I received 12 order requests for the 1008HA. I didn't fill them until the 1005HA was released but still. The slim form factor of the 1008HA is pretty much its main selling point.

I don't care about the non-removable battery or anything like that. I just wish that Asus would have made it just a hair thicker so that they could offer a 6-cell battery. That and VGA out performance seems to be below average. I don't know if you have any issues but it appears that Asus is using a USB to VGA setup instead of an actual VGA output. They are calling it mini-VGA but I think that it is USB to VGA as the processor takes a pretty big hit when outputting through the VGA adapter.
