Default AMD Zacate Netbook Chip Outperforms Intel Core i5

AMD announced it's netbook chip years ago and throughout the explosive growth seen in the netbook market over the past 3 years the Intel Atom chipset has dominated the landscape. Finally AMD has shown off it's new Zacate APU (combination of GPU and CPU on the same chip) in a graphical comparison against a 2.4 [...]

I kind of have issues with AMD and Nvidia now. I have no doubts that their hardware can outperform the Intel Atom line (I think the A4 chip in my iPad might even be a more solid performer than the Atom N450) but we have yet to see any real results.

I remember Nvidia saying that the Tegra and Tegra 2 chips were going to be in every netbook on the market. I don't think they have even been in one netbook to date and Tegra 2 tablets still aren't out.

AMD keeps slinging mud at Intel but they haven't really done anything yet. Sure, their processors are great performers (and the new netbook chip might actually be able to outperform a Core i5 processor) but they always lack in another area, mainly battery life. They always seem to claim that manufacturers should be able to get a certain battery life but that is just a pipe dream. The last batch of dual-core Neo's was supposed to allow manufacturers around 8 hours of battery life. That turned out to be wrong by a long shot.

We will see. I keep waiting for someone to take down the dreaded Atom chip as it would finally close the gap between netbooks and ultra portable notebooks but no one has stepped up yet as Intel keeps breaking boundaries with their battery life numbers.
