Default New Acer / ASUS Netbooks Due in August

While we've already seen a few next generation netbooks come out from Toshiba (here and here) but there are some from Acer and ASUS that we've been waiting on for a while like the 1016p, 1018p or 1015 to name a few. Come on. Manufacturers have been pushing the tired Atom N450+GMA3xxx formula for just as long as they were using the Atom N270/280+GMA950 setup. I know that everyone and their mom are going after the new dual-core Atom processors. I know that AMD is making a splash with their Neo/Neo II+ATI HD combination but it is hard to compete with an extremely established name.

Too bad the new Atom processors offer the same performance as the previously released Atom 330 chip. I think this is where Intel dropped the ball as they focused purely on power efficiency and not performance. It is also a shame that manufacturers rush to put these chips in their machines when it appears that AMD is offering more powerful solutions (albeit less power efficient) for lower prices. I think that I would end up buying a dual-core AMD Neo and ATI HD equipped netbook/ultra portable if I were on a budget (otherwise I would just go with a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro). They seem to offer the most bang for their buck especially considering that many of the models using that hardware support up to 8GB of RAM.
