I read
a couple of months ago that, as a business decision, the Intel G40 implementation was to be delayed due to the success of XP with the netbook.
Vista and G40 are good. XP and G40 are not a benefit. Due to Microsoft pricing and market desire for XP over Vista, there are a lot of XP netbooks floating around. Since Intel is selling so many of the 270/280 Atom chips, why change chipsets? Just yet.
When Intel switches to the new lower power Atom 32nm CPU, that would be the time to match it with the lower power Intel G40 or NVIDIA Ion and Windows 7.
ArsTechnica has a nice run down on
chips, chipsets and power usage for Mac users like me who are learning about Windows and netbooks.
All this begs the question, would you dump your 12/18 month netbook for a newer power sipping one? Would you move to HD capability in a netbook?
I wouldn't. I've posted about video editing on the netbook (a non-starter), run performance tests on my netbook (another non-starter) and swapped OSes around on my netbook (well, they all start

). I'm more comfortable with a non-net netbook. Work offline. Use my netbook as a personal electronic thingy.
