A little clarification: most of the netbooks with HDMI output support full 1080p video output as well (whether it is a video or the desktop). They don't run Intel graphics (either ION, VIA, and maybe a Broadcom chip paired up with Intel GMA). Intel's GMA series doesn't support 1080p video playback though.
Alas, I feel that Intel will be 2 years too late when it comes to adding HDMI output. That is something that the ION has been supporting ever since it first came out. Intel hasn't even supported hardware acceleration of HD video playback with their integrated graphics. I am hearing mixed stories regarding the GMA 500 in that it can playback 720p video but not 1080p. I don't know, it just seems as if Intel is too late on this one. I have a feeling that they will release their new CPU+GPU on a ide combo that supports 1080p hardware acceleration and call it "new" when in fact netbooks have been doing this, without Intel's hardware, for 2 years.
