I am not sure what software they are using for video playback but my HP Mini uses an older Broadcom chip and I am getting 60fps playback out of it (it took me a few hours to find a 1080p mpeg-4 AVC video encoded at 60 fps and it wasn't any of the ones they tested). Of course, most consumer videos (99.99% of them) are encoded at either 24fps, 30fps, or 29.97 fps. The Avatar trailer that the tested (unless it is different than the one on Apple's website) is even mastered at 29.97 fps so I am not sure how they are getting 60 fps playback out of that.
So I wouldn't say that the ION platform is necessarily better than Broadcom's chips for HD video playback especially since people just aren't going to come across 60 fps HD videos. Blu-ray movies, HD downloads, etc. They are either all 29.97 fps, 24 fps, or 30 fps. So I don't see how playing a video at 45 fps is all that bad (again, where did they get a 60 fps video from?).
Now, factor in general performance, slight gaming, and other various general aspects and the ION is better as Broadcom's chips don't aid during that type of usage.
