Default 2010 the year of high resolution netbooks?

Since the inception of the 10 inch netbook in 2008 the resolution of 1024 x 600 has been the standard for netbook screens. At this year's CES I saw a few netbooks that could indicate this standard may be changing soon. In fact, I did my best to schedule meetings with all of the netbook [...]

I am glad that 1366X768 resolution 10" netbooks are coming along. I hate the 1024X600 resolution for web browsing as it means constant scrolling. What is the purpose of owning a netbook if it means I have to scroll at least 5 times to read an e-mail? I understand that the lower resolution panels are less expensive but I don't think there is an excuse for that anymore especially whenever many websites and services are offering 720p videos.

Now all we need is more companies to start supporting these different hardware chips from Nvidia and Broadcom. I think it is stupid that iTunes can't playback 720p videos on my netbook yet I can pop in a full on Blu-ray movie and watch it without issues.

I certainly feel resolutions need to be higher...of course it is all relative...you can't see/use a 1600x1200 resolution on a 9" display other than for playing a movie and seeing the wonderful color depth. It's a constant balance among small devices of the screen size and the resolution.

My iPhone 3GS is great but I wish the browser would allow me to make it full screen (like F11 in Internet Explorer) or even make more use of the physical dimensions of the device (the bottom 3/4 inch is not the touchscreen).

I have a feeling sometime this year I will be getting rid of my Dell Mini9 for a new 10.x or 11.x size display netbook...simply for larger screen as I cannot work/play very long on the 9". Great little Dell Mini9, however!

Default hi res and/or netcentric

I still favor the smaller 9" or 10" standard netbooks over high resolution screens or ION chipsets (which requires dedicated software for performance I believe) but that is personal preference. I would never insist on a netbook that caused scrolling problems or insist that someone do without 760p video or larger screen real estate.

I'm more interested in netcentric uses of the netbook than I am the hardware or size or price or even XP/W7 per se.

I'm glad to see TIN man push ION and video capability. I think it is good for EIB to recommend larger sized notebooks. I'm typing this on an Asus 901 (XP) because it fits my netcentric lifestyle.
