I have to say that Asus, as a brand name, is nothing compared to HP or Lenovo. Asus is far overcharging by pricing this at $499.
First, who is going to plunk down $500 for a netbook when a darn good NOTEbook can be had for $700-$850?
Second, even if you really needed to buy a netbook for it's lightness and compactness, are you really going to buy an Asus product for the same pricepoint of HP and Lenovo?
Third, the camera is lame. 0.3MP? That's terrible.
Fourth, only 2GB of ram when it is expandable to 8? We all know ram is crazy cheap now (and has been for years)...Asus couldn't ship it standard with 4GB since they are offering Win7?
Fifth, high priced netbook comes with non-SSD drive?! My Dell Mini9 from 12+ months ago for $275 came with a 16GB SSD. Sure, it's not huge. But Asus could offer a 32GB or 64GB drive. Or, at worst a much larger 5400 RPM drive than 250GB.
I hate to sound so negative but Asus seems to be charging so much and all I can see it is for the screen.
I think Asus is out of their league with this pricing...seems like Asus is trying to get some brand recognition and build their status. Asus does make good netbooks, and much cheaper netbooks. But $500 is the very top end of netbooks and I think people will shop/purchase very carefully if they have to spend $500.
