Aloha
Nice site. Dropped in from EEE User Forum and thought I'd take a look around.
I am a Hawaii "kid", transplanted out to Virginia. Professor working for the federal government. Extended travels through Asia and the Pacific mostly, but now getting to see some of Europe and Africa.
The high amount of travel made netbooks very attractive to me. I have an EEE 900 and absolutely love the thing. It goes everywhere now. Just came back with it from the Philippines.
The netbook is now my primary computer. Tied to virtual drives (I use box.net), I am now working on my first book, the bulk of which will be written on the EEE. (My HP Pavillion is still a good machine, but far too heavy to lug around. I do still write on it on the weekends, but most days--like today--are spent typing on the netbook).
My EEE runs Xandros, because I was interested in working with linux, which I haven't done since college (roomates were Electrical Engineers, I the political scientist). I've since helped two other colleagues and students get their own netbooks (Acer, Wind and HP Minis).
Love the EEE, but if someone with little knowledge or interest is asking, I usually recommend the HP Mini (my previously mentioned roomates? Both working for HP). The Mini is running Windows and that's usually easier for most, and the keyboard is the nicest IMO of all the netbooks.
Look forward to hanging out here.
Aloha,
JesterEric
