After struggling with strong winds for much of the first day, the forecast was for more of the same on Friday - and it proved all too accurate as gusts of 45mph made for brutal on-course conditions.

Less than three hours of play was completed on Friday morning before the players were forced off the course. Officials were close to deciding on a 12.15pm restart, but then the gusts went up again and that was too much to keep balls still on the greens.
Tournament director David Probyn announced that play was suspended for the day soon thereafter, adding that the sponsors did not want the event to extend into Monday.
\"The course is still on the verge of playable, but there\'s no point sending the guys out for an hour or two on a marginal course,\" Probyn said.
\"The winds will be down a notch tomorrow and decreasing during the day, while the forecast for Sunday is for much calmer

While play was still possible on Friday morning, overnight leader Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano struggled through his first seven holes on the back nine, playing them in two over after bogeys at 13 and 14 and losing the lead to second placed John Daly, who hadn\'t started his second round yet.
\"It was windy when we went out and I had a few birdie chances, but then I bogeyed two holes into the wind,\" said Castano.
\"I hope tomorrow I can take advantage of the remaining ten holes I have. I didn\'t have any balls moving, but certain shots you could hardly keep balanced. Being selfish I\'m quite happy play was called off.\"
