Default Acer 751h versus Gateway LT31 I Have Both

I think that providing you do the right things, the 751h is a good netbbok. But you have to do the right things. You need to install the latest bios, latest video drivers, 2 gigs of RAM, and Windows 7. With all of those things done, you can get decent performance and 3 hour battery life with a 3-cell battery. It is not built that well, and the keyboard bounces. That is very annoying if you are a 2-finger typist.

Now I bought the Gateway LT31 with Windows XP on it, 1 gig RAM, a 160gb hdd, and I love it. The processor rocks, considering thais is a netbook. The LT31 uses the same keyboard as on the 751h but for some reason, the chassis is much stiffer, so very little keyboard bounce. The ATI 1250 chipset is MUCH better than the GMA500 on the Acer. Battery life on the 3-cell that came with it is not great .... just a hair over 2 hours. I haven't really tested the hd video. The screen is identical. The 751h has a better camera. Who cares?

All in all the Acer 751h is a mistake that you can salvage with some time and patience. The Gateway LT31 provides a great netbook experience at a modest price. Ok. It is a bargain.

How do these two compare on quietness?

I had a 751h (returned it after a day or two) and found it not as silent as I had hoped for.

Is the Gateway LT31 quieter than the Acer?

Default My Gateway..

I have the LT 3103. Have had it since July. I must say that this is the best $ I hvae spent on technology in quite awhile.
The standard 2 gb Ram and 250 gb hard drive along with the AMD Athlon 64 processor are perfect for surfing, email, creating/editing documents including spreadsheets and downloading my photos and music.
Gateway made a good product with this one and I can only assume (or hope) that it continued with all their models.

Default Quiteness

I find the LT31 also quieter. It runs cooler. I bought a compatible battery, a 6-cell to get 3.5 hours of battery life. Not that impressive. But respectable.
