Default Gateway Netbook (was Gateway notebooks)

Good Day

Hi this is my first post in this forum, I was hoping that someone can help me with this particular brand of notebooks. I'm a pro Asus myself because of its reliability, quality and endurance while running on battery. Now I'm thinking of buying another notebook, but the specs I needed, I require I cant find in any model of Asus notebooks and within my budget but rather found it on Gateway.

Now Acer notebooks, I know some problems about it from friends who own this particular notebook about its reliability, the heat that generates from the laptop while using it is sometimes gets a little to hot for comfort and quality keyboard keys are not that durable compared to others. Gateway is a sub company of Acer is that right? That's why I'm having doubts about buying it, I'm wondering if that could also be a problem of their laptops like Acer's or if not worst?

Give me your comments about Gateway laptops particularly the users of the EC series. Through your comments I will gauge my decision on buying this notebook.

One more thing, Any comments on notebooks running under AMD's Neo dual core processors compared to notebooks running under Intel's Core 2 duo?

Please don't post dumb answers just keep it to yourselves ok

Thanks you

Hi.

1)Well, I'm not a fan of Gateway...back in the mid 90's they were very popular and then Dell and others killed them. Gateway has had all sorts of ups and downs in the marketplace...opening and closing stores, etc...not to mention their computers back then were notorious for being non-standard. So in that light, I can't really recommend GW for anything...sorry to say...and I guess I am a little biased for not talking about the last 5 years of GW. My father has a Samsung from summer 2009 and loves it. I have a Dell Mini9 from 2008 and like it a lot but wouldn't recommend Dell compared to all the other netbooks for price/performance reasons.

2)You want recommendation on NOTEbooks? This can't be a typo since you wrote notebooks numerous times. But I'll give you the opportunity: are you talking about NETbooks??? You won't find any NOTEbook reviews on this site, sorry.

Are you talking about their 11-12" models that don't come with optical drives? Most systems with AMD Neo processors are now being labeled as netbooks. They started off as being ultra portable notebooks but now they are "officially" netbooks. Having said that, I am unfamiliar with any of Gateway's netbooks running the AMD Neo line. I definitely wouldn't purchase a 13-17" notebook with an AMD Neo chip as they aren't designed for that. They were designed to be put in 10-12" netbooks to compete with the Intel Atom line of chips, now with Intel's Core 2 Duo line or new Core iX series.

Instead, maybe you can give us a direct link to the model you were looking at so that we aren't playing the guessing game as to whether you are talking about an actual netbook or a notebook. This site is for netbook discussion only, you can discuss notebooks in the off-topic area (which is where this thread will be moved to if you are actually talking about notebooks).

Hi

Yes! I'm talking about netbooks, sorry for the confusion. Netbooks has smaller screensize right, smaller than 13"?

Here is the netbook I'm planning to buy, it has 11.6" of screen size and no optical drivebay.

@ThisIsNot - Your right, The gateway company has been on and off for awhile, and now their back. I'm gathering info if this comeback of batch of Laptops has improved or not? from somebdy who owns it.

Thanks

Again: what netbook? You don't have a link or model number in your reply. We can't help you without knowing what you are buying. Additionally, I doubt anyone here has the specific model you are looking for. The best thing you can do is go online and read up on the reviews. We can look at it from a pure price to technical comparison with other products though.

I would also recommend posting/moving this thread or a new thread in the Gateway area of this website...this way any Gateway owners surfing the site will see it.
