Is it possible to make an internet connection to a Sony blu-ray player using an asus Eee PC 1005PEB via the lan port?

No. The ethernet ports on stand-alone Blu-ray players are used for downloading firmware updates, running online apps (such as Netflix), accessing online Blu-ray functions (BD-Live), or servicing the Blu-ray player only. They are not a means of outputting audio and video content.

Default Blu-ray

Actually, I'm talking about accessing Netflix, etc. to the blu-ray player via the netbook wireless connection. My router is not close enough to the blu-ray player to run a wire. If possible, I would like to make a wired connection between the netbook and the blu-ray player. Is the LAN port on the netbook only input?
I know there is a wireless usb attachment for the blu-ray player, but I'd rather not invest another $75-100 if there is an alternate method of obtaining internet content through the blu-ray player.

OK, my mistake.

Yes, you can share your wi-fi internet connection with your netbook's ethernet port to your Blu-ray player. The steps for setting this up depend on the operating system your netbook is running. From what I remember for Windows XP, all you have to do is plug an ethernet cable (I believe it has to be an RJ45 crossover cable) from your netbook to your Blu-ray player. Disable the ethernet firewall (it isn't needed and cause conflicts), open up your Networks main control panel page (it can be accessed from the Star button), right-click on the wi-fi connection, left-click on properties, and enable a sharing option.

I believe Windows 7 is different as Microsoft moved the control panel options around. Essentially you want to share your wi-fi connection on your computer allowing access to anything connected through the ethernet port. I used to do this a while back with my Xbox 360 and my notebook but that was under Windows XP and I stopped doing that in 2006. Microsoft had a nice, visual set of instructions laid out but they have since changed the Xbox 360 support page. You can try looking there as ANY steps to share a internet connection (not media) with an Xbox 360 will be the same for your Blu-ray player.

I don't blame you for not buying the proprietary wi-fi adapter for your player. That was one of the reasons why I picked up a stand-alone model with built-in wi-fi back during Black Friday. I just couldn't fathom spending $100 on a Blu-ray player and an additional $80 for the wi-fi adapter especially when a used/refurbished PS3 an be had for $240 (I still think they are the best Blu-ray players to date though Sony needs to update the firmware for better Blu-ray 3D support but it is eventually coming).

Question Same Question/Problem

I'm having the same problem. I purchased an ethernet cable, but i was curious if i needed a router as well..? When i turn it on, i only get Local Area Connection! I manually entered my IP Address, Gateway, Subnet.. into to Blu-ray settings. I have the ethernet cable plugged to my netbook & Blu-ray & i still only get Local. So any suggestions besides just the cable? Help me please! I really want netflix on my Blu-ray(:
