I *thought* it was released in Australia with a price tag of over a thousand, which made it an extremely bad choice, and therefore, no news. I can't remember where I read that, I'll try and find a source later.
My guess is that it is either still a rumor or Asus will be waiting until this Fall to release it. Intel's GN40 chipset with 4500MHD gpu is still a ways off from getting released. Acer just announced a 11.6" netbook that will pack that (except it has an Intel ULV processor, not the Atom), they just didn't give us a release date which means it likely isn't coming out until at least another 4-6 months.
The transition to the newer Atom processors and GN40 chipset (along with 4500MHD GPU) was supposed to happen around now but it looks like that is getting pushed back until after the release date of Windows 7. I know that Intel is currently having an issue with Microsoft's definition of a netbook. Microsoft says that their light/netbook edition of Windows 7 will run on single-core note/netbooks only. Intel was planning on releasing a dual-core Atom processor this Fall but that means that it now wouldn't be in a netbook and the system would have to be powerful enough to run a higher version of Windows 7.
Either way, I wouldn't hold my breath for it. I remember reading an article a while back talking about this Asus unit but nothing has come of it. I also remember reading an article about a 10" Acer Aspire One running an N280 Atom processor featuring an h.264 hardware chip (that can be used for HD encoding and decoding) and a small optical drive (it was some stupid format that is basically a Blu-ray disc that is the size of a UMD disc). That has yet to come out and it appears that Acer is never going to come out with it in favor of a move to 11.6" netbooks.
That is over $1000 U.S. Damn. People can purchase full fledged dual-core notebooks that can outperform the Asus unit for about $499 from Best Buy. No wonder it was never released in the U.S.
Besides, Asus is coming out with a slim external Blu-ray drive that would go good with my HP Mini 110XP since it is the only netbook on the market that can playback Blu-ray videos.
