Default I got a good deal on the 1215T but no OS

So I got the 1215T for real cheap but it doesn't come with an OS. First question Windows 7 32 or 64? This model has the K125 cpu. Also as far as windows 7 goes. As far as computing power does Home Premium take less juice to run then ultimate?

When ever I install windows anymore I do it from a usb hard drive (I rip my windows disc to a hard drive then set boot from usb in bios), this will also work on a netbook?

When it comes to driver I figure I can just grab them all from asus website but I see two drivers for the wireless network card. Could you guys see what one i need to install?

Lastly, for the AMD graphics do I just got and download the mobile driver from the AMD website?

Thanks!

You could go with a 64-bit version of Windows 7 but there is no point in doing that unless you are going to install 4GB of RAM. Anything lower and you won't benefit from go with a 64-bit edition. I also recommend going with Windows 7 Home Premium as there really is no need for Win 7 Ultimate on a netbook. In fact, the main features that Ultimate offers over Home Premium deal with networking, hosting, etc. You still get Media Cetner with Home Premium and everything else. I would go with Win 7 Ultimate if you were builing a quad-core desktop that was going to host content and act as a server but you aren't.

You can install Wind 7 from a thumb drive (or USB hard drive) just fine on your netbook. I am not sure about the drivers but you might be able to find that out after you install Windows 7. It will likely let you know the hardware that you have thus guiding you to the correct driver to download. I would try getting the ATI graphics driver from Asus as it might be customized hardware in there (which general graphics driver from AMD would not work with). AMD's drivers might work but performance could also be unstable. It would be best to obtain the proper drivers directly from Asus (or download them from AMD if Asus isn't hosting them or says that AMD's drivers are fine).

Since I got a 1215T tread going let me ask more questions here. First I got Windows 7 64 installed and after emailing asus tech they said to install the ati drivers right from the ati site. So to my questions. First none of my fn keys work. Well thats a line the brightness work fine but none other. That includes numlock, screenlock, and volume. My other question, does the grapics switching work automatically? as in the 4200 pops on when i need it and what not?
Thanks

Windows needs specific drivers to let it know what they keyboard keys are. Different manufacturers use the Function key, in combination with others, differently. Windows made an educated guess with your brightness keys but it can't do that for all of them. It sounds like Asus also uses a non-standard numlock key setup. You would have to get the drivers from Asus or see if someone in the Eee PC community has made some for you.

Your netbook does not have interchanging graphics. Only models with Intel HD displays and something else, whether it is a more powerful Nvidia or AMD setup, have the switchable graphics. Your netbook does not have Intel HD graphics (it is an AMD processor and chipset after all) and relies solely on the HD 4250 graphics. So the ATI HD 4250 graphics will always be up and running no matter what.
