Default what can you do with a netbook

The host of things to do with a netbook will keep it popular. Here are a few.

As a sling box user you can redirect tv to your netbook. You can give the netbook to soldiers in the field. You can turn your netbook into a tv to watch live worldwide channels. You can connect to broadband. You can connect to satellite tv. You can use an internet phone. You can recycle to charity groups. You can teach seniors tech use. I've heard that some people even browse the internet and write email.

Telcos and ISPs are giving away the smaller netbooks with a two year contract.

I had to buy a used/refurbished sub-10in netbook for my use. I bought an Asus 901.

The smaller netbook niche is dwindling. The push is for larger, faster more featured netbooks.

I do all of these things with my netbook:
  1. Light gaming. GOG.com is a great place to download those old classics such as Duke Nukem 3D. The Intel GMA 950 IGP and Atom N270/N280 processor can handle things just fine.
  2. Manage my iTunes account. I can download videos, songs, apps, etc., and sync them all to my iPod. My library is stored on a large 4TB NAS system so I don't have to worry about plugging anything into my netbook to access the content.
  3. Video conference with people. My netbook came with Skype and I have had video conferences with over a dozen people already.
  4. Download and watch the latest movie trailers from Quicktime.com. I was able to watch the Avatar trailer in full 1080p on my netbook the minute it was released.
  5. Keep up with The Angry Video Game Nerd and the Nostalgia Critic.
  6. Keep an open tab on any news.
  7. Use my netbook as a medium for taking pictures off of my digital camera and putting them on my USB 2.0 500GB hard drive while also backing them up on my NAS drive whenever I get home. It is nice being able to take all the pictures I want and not worry about filling my paltry 1GB card (for my compact camera) or 4GB card for the DSLR.
  8. Presentations... I have made over a dozen presentations since I received my netbook and I have used it for all of them. Being able to plug in my portable USB 2.0 500GB hard drive to access raw Excel files is a bonus.
  9. Edit homework right before class starts. I often find a small mistake here or there. I can now pull up the homework, quickly edit it, and then e-mail it to the professor before class starts.
  10. Burn content to a dual-layer DVD or CD and then create a fancy label for that CD/DVD. I received a discount on an HP portable DVD+-R/RW DL drive that features their LightScribe technology. It was nice burning about 500MB worth of files to a CD-R disc and then creating a special label for it. My handwriting is terrible so a professional label really goes a long way.
  11. Stay up to date with the latest OS in a portable environment. My two tablet notebooks run hardware that is a little old (mainly the Intel IGP's, they are the 8000 series ones no longer supported by Microsoft or Intel with Windows 7 drivers). My netbook hardware is still "fresh" so I can take full advantage of Aero in Windows 7, something I can't do on my other portables.
