I do all of these things with my netbook: - Light gaming. GOG.com is a great place to download those old classics such as Duke Nukem 3D. The Intel GMA 950 IGP and Atom N270/N280 processor can handle things just fine.
- Manage my iTunes account. I can download videos, songs, apps, etc., and sync them all to my iPod. My library is stored on a large 4TB NAS system so I don't have to worry about plugging anything into my netbook to access the content.
- Video conference with people. My netbook came with Skype and I have had video conferences with over a dozen people already.
- Download and watch the latest movie trailers from Quicktime.com. I was able to watch the Avatar trailer in full 1080p on my netbook the minute it was released.
- Keep up with The Angry Video Game Nerd and the Nostalgia Critic.
- Keep an open tab on any news.
- Use my netbook as a medium for taking pictures off of my digital camera and putting them on my USB 2.0 500GB hard drive while also backing them up on my NAS drive whenever I get home. It is nice being able to take all the pictures I want and not worry about filling my paltry 1GB card (for my compact camera) or 4GB card for the DSLR.
- Presentations... I have made over a dozen presentations since I received my netbook and I have used it for all of them. Being able to plug in my portable USB 2.0 500GB hard drive to access raw Excel files is a bonus.
- Edit homework right before class starts. I often find a small mistake here or there. I can now pull up the homework, quickly edit it, and then e-mail it to the professor before class starts.
- Burn content to a dual-layer DVD or CD and then create a fancy label for that CD/DVD. I received a discount on an HP portable DVD+-R/RW DL drive that features their LightScribe technology. It was nice burning about 500MB worth of files to a CD-R disc and then creating a special label for it. My handwriting is terrible so a professional label really goes a long way.
- Stay up to date with the latest OS in a portable environment. My two tablet notebooks run hardware that is a little old (mainly the Intel IGP's, they are the 8000 series ones no longer supported by Microsoft or Intel with Windows 7 drivers). My netbook hardware is still "fresh" so I can take full advantage of Aero in Windows 7, something I can't do on my other portables.
