Default zip or flap for netbook sleeves

My Asus 1000HE came with a zip sleeve. I found a used Sony flap sleeve in the bargain bin for 10 cents so I put it on the 1KHE. My Asus 901 came with a flap sleeve and it works well for me as a netbook style. Either neoprene one fits into my briefcase for carry.

Lots of sleeves are zip type. I use the zip type on my MacBooks. My zip type sleeve has an inner lip to protect the computer finish from scratches as the zipper gets pulled back and forth. For some reason the zip type seems better for the larger non-netbook computer IMO. At security inspections now in airports, the sleeve encased computer can be put in the bin and run through the machine. That gives some protection to the computer for the bumps of the conveyor rollers and the bins slamming together.

There are certainly a lot of sleeve styles/patterns available. Targus makes some good sleeves as well as other computer accessories. I'm undecided whether a sleeve should have a carry handle and extra pockets for other gear. The sleeves I use the most don't have handles or pockets.

I use a more hard sided sleeve for travel. I put the neoprene sleeved computer inside the harder sided sleeve just for the extra piece of mind in case I drop my bag or it tumbles off a table. I figure that if I need my computer when I get to my destination it might as well be a working computer.
