Default I seem to keep buying Asus netbooks...

I've purchased two Asus netbooks - the 1000HE and 1008HA. So far I haven't branched out into any other manufacturers, but I've been really pleased with the netbooks I've purchased.

Anyone else still stuck on Asus like me?

I bought Asus 1000HE with 320 GB HD and 2GB RAM (great with long time battery), Asus 901 GO ( very nice with integrated 3G), Samsung NC10 Anynet (I appreciated a lot Modem 3g integrated).

Now, after selling 901 and NC10, I remained with 1000HE.

I am very satisfied.
I will wait evolution on better resolution ang graphics with 8-10 hours battery, with 3G integrated.

I used to stick with Asus for personal use. I have a 1005HA and that was my netbook of choice until Gateway (made by Acer) came out with their model. It outperforms every Asus Eee PC out there but can last for only 4 hours on a single charge.

Asus netbooks are extremely stylish though. They pretty much invented the netbook market and keep reinventing it with almost every new Eee PC release. The 1005HA is a solid netbook that can last longer than the 1000HE (that is saying something as the 1000HE held the battery life record for a while) and comes in a stylish package. I can see why people would remain loyal Eee PC purchaser.

I am pleased for the most part with my eeepc but it is kind of "cheap" in terms of its construction. The bottom seems to creak and my lcd border has unstuck from the bottom. Not a deal breaker but I find myself longing for the design of the HP 2140. Even the newly announced SONY VAIO netbook looks promising, though un-interesting in terms of its specs.

It's interesting actually, I bought the 701 long ago, then the 1000HE and now I'm planning to buy a 1005HA. I actually haven't noticed the trend that I go for Asus each time. I had to go through hell to get that 701 since no one stocked it, and I still don't have a 1005HA because all the stores keep pushing the stupid Acer models in my face.

Just be careful to not buy a 1005HA from Best Buy. They have their own version that comes with wi-fi (no bluetooth), an N270 processor, and a three-cell battery. I was at the Best Buy down here yesterday and saw that they moved their netbook section from the front (where they used to have only 6 models on display) to the back against the wall (where they now have over 12 models on display). They had three 1005HA models on display and they were all $299. The price was too good to be true. This is not the first time that Best Buy has fooled its customers again. They had their own version of the 1000HE that came with an N270 processor, no bluetooth, and a lower capacity six-cell battery. They also have their own 1008HA which is $399. It is only missing bluetooth from the standard configuration. It is currently the only netbook down at Best Buy running an N280 processor.

I'm fairly pleased with my 1000HE. It's a beautiful machine, especially the hinge, I love the two metal stoppers at each end. It's hands down way better than my last laptop...a compaq presario v3000 piece of junk. It's such a relief to be able to actually use the netbook wirelessly, on battery power...and for so long, 7 hours!

I'm wondering though if I should have waited until windows 7 comes out for netbooks. I am comfortable using XP, I've customized it with desktop applications and tweaks like rocket dock, transparent taskbar, start killer, etc.

This netbook is wonderful, tho.

Default I, too, am sold on ASUS

I got my 900 due to price when I started having more and more problems with an old Acer notebook. I was attracted to the size, as well as the price and features.

I have had almost no problems with it. The only issue was that my touchpad buttons seemed to die, but that was easily fixed my using the "tap" features (single tap = left, 2 finger = open in new tab, three finger = right) and I can later get the buttons replaced if I really want to.

Default Love ASUS, but...

Cost and functionality were the big selling points for ASUS. I love my EEE 900 and probably use it more than any other computer.

Still, it's not the brand I usually send people too. I usually send them to HP. I find the minis a netbook with more "substance" than ASUS. The main selling point is the keyboard, though. HP's keyboard is so close to full size that most folks I've sent to try it don't notice the difference.

If someone is looking to modify a netbook, though, is really going to mess (if not replace) the OS and tweak the machine, though, then ASUS is the way to go. Cheap and easy to mod, and if one hasn't gone too far in the process, the F9 restore function (restore factory settings) is a great way to reset to a working computer.

Just a note: the Asus 1008HA can't be modified without almost completely taking it apart. Both the RAM and hard drive were easy to upgrade in the 1000HE, that isn't the case with the 1008HA. Even the 1005HA is limited in that the user can't replace the hard drive without disassembling the netbook (the RAM can be easily accessed though). It is a shame that Asus is taking this approach to their newer netbooks as their older models are not like this.
