Default No Power

I lost my power cord, bought a Targus universal and picked what I thought was the right tip and plugged it in. The whole thing went black. Is it fried? Is there a reset? I did not RTFM. Should I be tossed from the gene pool?

Hi. Elaborate on "The whole thing went black". Please be very specific about what you mean by that, was the machine on battery before you plugged it in, are you traveling and using a different country's power source, etc.

If there are multiple "tips" that fit your netbook...and if you chose the wrong wrong and fried the computer, then the only thing you could try is calling Targus and asking them to pay for your computer since they really shouldn't be making multiple "tips" (that fit an identical jack) yet each tip offers different power.

If you paid for the Targus with your credit card, you may be insured...pick up the phone and call your credit card company for an explanation of what they will cover.

On a side note, I've never trusted those all-in-1 power thingies...they've been around since the late 70s and I've tried them on all sorts of electronics before computers and laptops were popular...I never really had a good experience and did fry a few things (or underpowered and thus did an equally bad job).

Overall for your case: if the Targus manual/guide was extremely easy to use and follow and you just didn't read it...you are to blame. If, however, the guide was ambiguous or very hard to understand, I would certainly blame Targus for making a product that can very easily destroy other products due to Targus' inability to provide adequate instructions...and I would contact Targus to receive compensation.

Did you follow the Targus online guide? http://www.targus.com/us/tipconfigur....aspx?region=1
