Question ASUS 1 and 6 key

Has anyone read why the ASUS has a white circled 1 and a white circled 6 on the keyboard?

Any clues about the little blue runner on the space key?

Not sure what the #1 and 6 (or up and down which are also circled) are, but the running man signifies a programmable function key. I use it to change CPU speeds (triggered by FN-Space).

I have never noticed those circled numbers, I guess I just don't pay attention to keyboards that much (unless I try to use one and it is messed up). My guess is that they are used with Asus' Eee PC software, their distro of Linux, have some BIOS functionality, or have a purpose back at the manufacturing factory.

Who knows. The computer that I am currently on, an older Toshiba tablet, has 7 different function keys that do absolutely nothing but take up space on the keyboard.

The "company" answer from ASUS is that the keys are easier to see in low light. If you are in such a situation, orienting from the 1 and 6 key makes it easier to know where you are, much like the small bumps on the "f" and "j" keys on a standard QWERTY board.

Some folks have noted that holding CTRL and pushing the 1 and 6 together has opened their homepage in Firefox. A couple have found CTRL and 1 to flip the screen orientation 90 degrees (why, I have no idea).
