Default ASUS eeePC slow-down

My husband uses this netbook, purchased 12/08, for email and net surfing. Other than some photos, he stores nothing (no documents, no mp3 files) and the only applications are Adobe Reader and Webroot Security. Of late, it has been operating very slowly, even freezing up (maybe just taking a long time to load/download?). He has little patience and even less intuition about these things. I\'d like to help him...

Specs are: Asus eeePC 1000HD, Intel celeron processor (900Mz), .99GB RAM, Windows XP OS.

Questions: Do we upgrade to 2GB memory, if system can handle it? Do we increase the size of the paging file (currently 1524 MB)? Do we try any of the software out there that is supposed to clean out the crud? I\'ve defragged the disk, and used the Webroot clean-up function, but without noticeable improvement. Is it time to junk this one and start over?
