Default netbook monitor isssue.

Hi,

I have a acer netbook aspire one and its exactly a year old. Recently all of a sudden, the monitor is very dim and cannot see anything. If i hold the netbook under some light, then I can a very very dim screen. I am yet to contact the support to see what they can do but I am trying to fix it myself.

1) I tried the very basic thing i.e. to adjust the brightness
2) I would like to know if there is anyway we can change the brightness i.e. from BIOS.
3) If in case some light is gone, is it possible to buy it and change?

Please help me out as I love this netbook very much!

regards

Just an FYI - forums aren't places to receive instant answers. It often takes more than 24 hours for someone to come up with an educated response to questions like this. "Bumping" a post is often considered to be SPAM. Please be patient when waiting for a reply.

Now, about your display. Try firing up the BIOS and see if there are any options for display brightness. I have my doubts but you never know. This is something that you will have to try though as I don't know of many active users who have an Acer netbook (if there even are any).

You can also try to disassemble the netbook but you won't be able to replace the backlight system. The backlight system is part of the entire display. These small parts can be replaced on a manufacturing level but not on a small user level. You would have to end up replacing the whole display. There would be two ways of doing this: purchase a new display with the housing or without the housing. You will save about $40-$50 if you purchase a display without the housing but it will be a lot more difficult to install.

Either way, the installation of a new display would require a moderate level of understand just exactly what is going on with your specific netbook. Additionally, a new display will run you anywhere between $90 (without housing) and $150 (with housing). Those are the bottom basement displays too and there is no guarantee that they won't crap out after a month. The cost of a quality display with housing is up near $200. You might as well just buy a new netbook at those prices.

I recently had the same problem. Played with the brightness, but to no avail. Finally realized that my power was low, so plugged in and all was fine. I know that probably isn't your issue, but.....

Look at the back or side of your netbook to find an available VGA or DVI port.Note: DVI ports are usually white, and most VGA ports are blue (refer to your netbook owner\'s manual if necessary). DVI ports are used to connect some flat panel LCD displays, while VGA ports can connect either LCD or older style CRT monitors.

Plug a LCD monitor into the external VGA port of your netbook.

In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.

Click the Display List and select your external monitor.

Select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor check box.

Adjust the proper screen resolution for LCD monitor, i.e. 1028 by 1024.

Click OK.

this is an alternative for display.
