    5 Best Netbooks of 2009

I'll be leaving for Las Vegas NV for CES to give you first hand videos of the latest netbooks tomorrow morning, but before I go I wanted to take some time to reflect back on the past year and give you my picks for the best netbooks of 2009. It's very difficult to pick the very best netbook so I'm going to share my top favorites for the best 5 netbooks of the year in no particular order:

    1. Asus Eee PC 1005HA

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA is the perfect balance between price, performance and battery life. The Asus Eee PC 1005HA was also a bestselling netbook for five months in a row before being finally toppled by the Acer Aspire One AOD250 in December. Read my full Asus Eee PC 1005HA review for more details on this netbook.

There are several different variations of the 1005HA but this one is my favorite with Windows 7 Starter, 250 GB hard drive and 1 GB RAM. (See full specs)

    Available for $333.95

    2. Lenovo IdeaPad S12

The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 is the most powerful netbook I reviewed courtesy it's Nvidia ION chipset built inside. I showed off the power it can offer with the new Flash and in playing the PC game Crysis and overall found that it is the first netbook I could call a true laptop replacement. Read my full Lenovo Ideapad S12 review for more details on this netbook.

I recommend the highest end version of the Ideapad S12 with a 250 GB hard drive, 3 GB of RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium (See full specs) but only if you have a larger netbook budget.

Available for $599.99 (but price drops from time to time)

    3. Toshiba NB205

The Toshiba NB205 is the first netbook made by Toshiba and it's a winner. With the largest touchpad I've seen on a netbook, a very solid build quality and great keyboard it's one of the best netbooks of the year. Read my full Toshiba NB205 review for more info.

Like the netbooks listed above there are several different versions of this netbook. I like this one the most with a 250 GB hard drive, 1GB RAM and Windows 7 starter (See full specs).

    Available for 326.24

    4. Acer Aspire One AOD250

The Acer Aspire One AOD250 is a feature rich netbook at a price that doesn't put much of a dent in the wallet. This is the least expensive netbook on the list and if you're looking to get a great netbook on a budget you should pick up the Acer Aspire One AOD 250. It was also the best selling netbook in December.

The model I suggest has 250 GB hard drive, 1 GB RAM and Windows 7 starter (See full specs)

    Available for $278.59

    5. Asus Eee PC 1008HA

The Asus Eee PC 1008HA is the best netbook for those looking for a netbook in the thinnest and lightest form factor. I personally own one now and love how it is about half a pound lighter than most netbooks at 2.4 pounds and only an inch thick. Read my full ASUS Eee PC 1008HA review for more on why I think it's great.

I suggest going with the model that has a 250 GB hard drive, 1 GB of RAM and Windows 7 starter (See full specs).

    Available for $385.87

What do you think of my list?

Update: I went hands on with dozens of netbooks while I was at CES (click here for the coverage) and one netbook came out on top. Read my post on the best netbook of CES for more details.

Nice list and I agree with most of your picks. I’m not a huge fan of the 1008HA because you can’t replace the battery, but I do appreciate how mobile it is.
