Asus Eee PC 1008HA found on NewEgg (removed now)

Yesterday afternoon I spotted the Asus Eee PC 1008HA in both Black and White. They were both available at the earlier announced $429 price with a ship date of May 18th. The $429 price had already been previously announced; however, a US ship date had not been confirmed yet.

As I sat down to write the quick post about what I found on NewEgg I went back to the product links and found both items had been deactivated along with the prices and ship dates. I'm sorry I don't have a screen grab from when I first saw the item, but needless to say I'm sure the final price and release date will be close to what was originally posted on NewEgg above. I've also heard that there would be a possible $20 savings to pre order the netbook before it's release (similar to the promo they did for the Asus Eee PC 1000HE), but NewEgg wasn't passing on that savings. Amazon passed on the savings for the Asus Eee PC 1000HE, so you might want to stop by there first before ordering your Eee PC 1008HA. Just keep your eyes on this search.

What do you think? Will you pick up the Asus Eee PC 1008HA?

Just picked one up and found out that IT DOESN”T RUN Windows 7 due to Video issues. I had such a great experience with an Acer Aspire One netbook that I though I would upgrade to a slimmer netbook. But after bringing it home last night I found out that there are issues with it going to a black screen when poweing on OR hibernating…There are some clunky workarounds (Batch file OR possibly modified bios) that work for some..

I know it’s not a “Supported OS” but it seems strange that Windows 7 runs well on so may netbooks but there are a handful of EEEs (1000HE, 902, 1008HA, perhaps others) that have this problem even though most of the hardware inside all the Atom netbooks is the same.

Anybody have a quick fix or idea if ASUS will address somenthing like this with a bios/driver update?

…Just so hard to go back to running XP after haveing such a good experience with Windows 7 on my Aspire One…
