ASUS Eee PC 1005PR up for pre-order
The ASUS Eee PC 1005PR is available for pre-order and priced at $399.99:
Quick Specs: Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 802.11b/g/n, 11 hrs battery (see full specs)
The 1005PR brings two key advantages to the table that have been notably absent from previous Eee PC iterations: High Resolution Screen at 1366 x 768 pixels and a Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator. Because Flash 10.1 allows the computer to offload the work to the Broadcom chip the netbook can achieve great results for HD video playback from sites like YouTube and Hulu (similar to the experiment I ran showing a before Flash 10.1 and after on an Nvidia ION powered netbook).
Add these two elements together toss in an 11 hour battery life and 250 GB hard drive and I think I have found a new netbook to buy. We've already seen people want higher resolution netbooks even if the cost increases, so perhaps more netbook makers will put out some models to compete with the 1005PR now. Either way, the ASUS Eee PC 1005PR is the netbook I've been waiting for a long time.
