Does the 1005 HA have a longer life battery available. I see adds for a 10.5 hr battery model “ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook – 10.5 Hour Battery Life”. Also , withoput a dvd drive how do you transfer big files etc i.e watch movies??

I’ve had a Eee 1005 HA for a couple of weeks. Some serious woes in that WinXP reboots or locks often — as far as I can tell due to antivirus scans. I’ve tried 4 different AV tools and all do it. Linux is rock solid, but only very recent kernels (i.e., not current yet — Ubuntu 9.10 alpa) have drivers.

To see if there was some problem with the s/w, I tried a system restore from DVD and … got a msg that the image was corrupted! So now no XP at all at all at all. Thinking of going all-Linux, but there may be some issues of tools to turn wireless on and off.

Would be willing to share experiences with others.

i think that one critical issue on a netbook, is that you don’t want to carry anything else besides the the device itself –
i don’t want to carry an extra battery, not a charger with its wires (that’s why i’m willing to sacrifice the “extra” 200 gr’ for the eee1000he) and definitely not an external mouse. thats why i need my touchpad to be functional as close as it can to a mouse.

i’m surprised that most of the reviews i read (not only in here), don’t give much of focus on that point, besides telling if the touchpad is smaller or larger than another netbook the reviewer tried earlier.

Tomer, I didn’t notice much of a difference in multi touch capabilities between the two; however, I prefer the touch pad on the 1008HA and it’s also easier to click the buttons below the touchpad on the 1008HA. I found the buttons on the 1000HE too stiff.

The 1000HE is slowly going to be phased out by Asus in favor of the 1005HA.

hey chris, i read your eee pc 1008HA review…can you please add details about the touch pad and compare it to the one on the eee pc 1000HE? (multi touch ,size and whatever you consider to affect the functionality – and after you spent some time with “the new texture” – what is your verdict about it?)

Me I need a netbook with a good resolution !!!!!!!! I tried my moms HP Mini 1135CA but the resolution of 1024×537 is just too weird and some programs crashes because of that…….. but thats one NICE netbook !!!

another question:
one of the key reasons that i always prefered the eee pc’s on the msi wind, is the size and functionality of the touch pad…
in the new “shell” eee’s, it looks like asus reduced its size, don’t they?

if they do, i”ll have to compare the msi wind u 115 to the Asus Eee PC 1005HA on battery life, weight and touch pad functionality – these are the most crucial categories to my opinion.
