Asus Eee PC 1000HE follow up impressions 2 GB RAM Update
The other day I wrote an update that I upgraded the RAM in my Asus Eee PC 1000HE from the default 1 GB to 2 GB. It was very easy to do and only took me about 3 minutes to complete and the RAM was less than $25.
Performance update
Now that I've spent some more time using the netbook with 2 GB of RAM I've noticed a slight decrease to the boot time for Windows by about 5 seconds and more responsive multitasking capabilities (as expected). But there was sadly no performance increase to HD video playback via Hulu or YouTube. As you may recall in my Asus Eee PC 1000HE review I mentioned that Hulu HD and YouTube HD videos ran choppy and were basically unplayable. I was hoping the additional RAM would allow the HD videos to playback without issue. However, I know this was only wishful thinking because the primary bottleneck is the weak integrated graphics card. Such is the sacrifice between battery life and performance though right? Then again, there's always the Asus Eee PC 1004DN to look forward to
.
Still worth the upgrade
HD video or not, spending less than $25 on RAM to improve the netbook's overall performance is definitely worth the price. If you are still using your netbook's starting configuration of only 1 GB or 512 MB of RAM I highly recommend you check out these netbook RAM deals I posted earlier and upgrade to 2 GB.

I have a Kohjinsha sc3 and I just ordered a 2gb module today. This netbook has an Atom Z530 CPU. I’m curious to see if there is a performance difference.
BTW, is anyone using the MS virtual desktop manager program? It seems like a perfect fit for netbooks with their small screen and even more so if you have 2gb of ram and want multiple apps open http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx
After installing right click on the taskbar and enable it and you have four virtual desktops to switch between.
2 GB DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM costs around 55-60 USD.
