Today we are going to pit to potential netbooks against each other in head to head combat for your purchasing pleasure. That way you can make an informed decision about which of these models is right for you. Lets meet our first contender:

Toshiba NB305-N600

The Toshiba NB305-N600 is the cheaper of the two models, coming in at $425.00. It sports an Intel Atom N550 processor that runs are a speed of 1.5 GHz. The hard drive is 250GB and comes equipped with a TOSHIBA Hard Drive Impact Sensor that is designed to help cushion short drops. The systems screen is 10.1 inch, with a resolution of 1024 x 600. The battery can last up to 8 hours and 21 minutes. The operating system is Windows 7 Starter 32-bit. Now, lets take a look at its competitor.

ASUS 1215N-PU27-SL

The ASUS 1215N-PU27-SL is a bit more expensive at $484.03. It comes with an Intel Dual Core Atom D525 processor, and a 500GB hard drive. The screen is 12.1 inch, and comes in with an HD resolution of 1366x768. The battery life is about 6 hours, and the operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium.

So, which one is the winner in our little competition? Usually I would tell you that it depends on your need, but in this case just go with the ASUS 1215N-PU27-SL. For the less than $70 difference you get a faster process, a bigger hard drive and a bigger screen with better graphics. Yes, the battery life is a little less, but you can always plug in to finish up your work. This just goes to show you how netbooks in the same price range can vary wildly in their offerings.

The odds are that if you are here then you are in search of a netbook. There is also a very good chance that much like of the world in the current economic situation you want to (or need to) save yourself some serious cash on this purchase. That is why today we are going to take a look at one of the best budget netbooks that you can get yourself. Today we are going to take a look at the Acer AO532h-2588 and despite its budget friendly price of $199.99 you will be surprisingly happy with what you get for the price.

The system sports a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, which is enough to do a lot for the web only user. You will not get amazingly high performance, but you will get everything that you need without any real stress or fuss. The system comes with a decent sized memory, with a 160GB SATA hard drive and while this may not be a very large hard drive it is enough for the web. The screen is 1 10.1" that is not HD, but most people do not really need HD to be happy with their netbooks. Even if you love your DVD collection this is not really that big of an issue. After all it has a resolution of 1024 x 600.

The operating system is Windows 7 Starter, which will be good news when you consider that many users will not want to take the time to learn a new operating system in order to use their netbook. Since the system has up to 8 hours of battery life, provided you do not abuse it, and that is enough to enjoy a good day. The only drawback is that the system weighs five pounds, so you will need to get a bag in order to keep yourself (and your shoulders) happy. If you're looking for a great budget option you should really consider the Acer AO532h-2588.

Today, we are going take a look at the ASUS Eee PC 1215B-PU17-BK and decide if it is the right netbook for you or if you should choose another option. Lets start with the cost. This netbook rings in at $443.99, and while it may not be a budget model at this price it is a fair cost for the hardware that you are getting. Speaking of the hardware, lets take a look at the specs of the machine.

The processor is an AMD E350 CPU that is backed up with 2GB of DDR3 RAM, through there are some empty slots. So, if you are feeling jaunty and you have the skills to give it an upgrade you can to a max of 4GB if you need to. The screen is a 12.1" WXGA, with a resolution of 1366x768, which is a high definition picture. So, the media buffs among you should be happy with what you get here. The screen is sported by a ATI HD 6310 graphics card, so your resolution is not put to waste with an inferior processor.

The hard drive is a generously sized 320GB SATA Hard Drive and like all netbooks this system has no optical drive. IT does however sport two USB ports, and a 2-in-1 Card Reader, both of which allow you to expand your memory when you need to, without any stress or fuss.

The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium which will be good news for the majority of netbook users who do not want to hassle to learn a new operating system, or for people who want a high degree of interoperability with their home PC's. The system boasts 8.5 hours of battery life, which is solid performance for a netbook battery.

On the whole this laptop is a good choice for media buffs, travellers and people who sit in for marathon work sessions. Worth a shot if you want a good all-around netbook.

When you're buying a netbook you have to be careful to get the right one. The odds are that you are probably asking yourself what the best way to make sure that you get the best one is? Well, that is simple and easy. All you have to do is to put them up against each other in head to head combat. Today we are going to pit two machines that just might be worthy of your time and your money. Lets look at the competitors.

Acer Aspire One AOD257-1486

Price:$299.99

Specs (as per Amazon listing):

* Intel Atom N570 Dual-Core 1.66GHz Processor
* 10.1" WSVGA LED backlight & Acer CrystalBrite Technology (1024 x 600)
* Intel GMA 3150 graphics
* 1GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM
* 250GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD

Acer Aspire One AOD257-1633

Price: $286.99

Specs (as per Amazon listing):

* The new look of the Acer Aspire One AOD257 is sure to turn heads with its smooth and suave design. The glossy cover features a unique "water ripples" pattern that screams self expression.
* The Intel Atom N570 Dual-Core Processor lets you do more and stay mobile longer with low power consumption, and provides better video and system performance.
* Windows 7 Starter makes the things you do every day easier and with Office Starter 2010, experience new ways to deliver your best work! Buy Microsoft Office 2010 to activate a full-featured Office suite preloaded on this PC.

So, which is the better choice? I know it is hard to tell, they seem so similar. Despite the marketing noise I would say that the Acer Aspire One AOD257-1486 is the way to go. The graphics are better, the battery life is longer, the processor is about the same and you will get the best value for your dollar.

It looks like another company is getting ready to jump ship from the world of netbooks, and look at their other mobile technology options instead. Acer is going to stop making netbooks next year. The Taiwan-based company has decided that as part of their bid to stay profitable they will no longer be making and selling their line of netbooks.

The company is getting rid of the Aspire line of netbooks, but is by no means moving out of the mobile market completely. The company is shifting its limited resources to focus on another area of speciality mobile devices, high end laptops, which are sometimes known as ultrabooks.

Acer's CEO, Mr. JT Wang, released a statement to the media about the companies change of position, "We will shift our strategy to improving profitability from pursuing market share blindly with cheap and unprofitable products....Ultrabooks will become our key growth driver next year as customers want a lighter, thinner notebook with longer battery life. Selling more Ultrabooks will also help improve our profit margins as they command higher prices.”

The truth is that they will have to sell fewer units of ultrabooks in order to make a profit. Since a netbook is often less expensive more people are willing to buy them, but the profit margin is cheaper. In addition netbooks also have competition, in price point at least, with tablets. Since high end tablets can boast the same web speeds as a netbook, HD resolution and the ability to easily sync to a computer at home, many consumers are choosing those instead.

Acer is, of course, not the only tech company to come to this conclusion in the recent past. Last week the folks over at Samsung let their investors know that they were cutting out their line of netbooks, arguably because it was not as profitable as they had hoped. Samsung has also chosen to instead focus on the Ultrabook style of laptop.

It is that time again. Two netbooks will go head-to-head for your time, attention and buying power in an epic struggle of the statistics. Today's bout will be between the Toshiba NB505-N508OR and the Acer Aspire One 722-BZ197. Now, lets get to know the contestants better.

In this corner is the Toshiba NB505-N508OR. It sports an Intel Atom processor N455 processor, a beefy 250GB hard drive a 10.1 screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 and Windows 7 as its operating system. It also features three USB ports.

Cost: $258.98

Now, onto the next contender, The Acer Aspire One 722-BZ197. It sports a AMD Dual-Core Processor C-50 with a 250GB hard drive and also uses Windows 7 as its operating system. This machine features at multi-in-one card reader.

Cost: $298.30

Which one do I want?

Well, as you can see these machines are, on the whole, fairly comparable. They have a lot of the same features, the same amount memory and a processors that will preform similarly. In a case like this it all comes down to price. Why pay $40 more for tablets that are similar? I can't think of any good reason, unless you really need the built in card reader that is. In this case the Toshiba NB505-N508OR is really the more pragmatic choice.

Of course you are free to make your own choices. Some people who have had a very good (or a very bad) experience with a brand may prefer to stick with that brand (or avoid it like the black death) in their future purchases. So go ahead and buy the one that makes the best sense to you.

Budget netbooks are a bit of a mixed bag. Some of them are comically bad. Unless, you bough one, then its not funny at all. Others are really good. The problem is that after hearing one horror story from a user who got gypped by a budget model a lot of people are squeamish about buying one for themselves. The truth is, you don’t have to be afraid of a budget netbook. You just have to do your homework first. One good option is the Acer AO532h-2588, it has a decent blend of the basic and advanced features to make most end users happy.

Price: $199.98

Now, lets get down to the specs. The screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600 and while that is not HD, it is good enough for you to enjoy your streaming media, video chats and the rest of what the web has to offer. To be honest most of us don’t need HD, and if you want to have an HD video chat with your boss then you must have a really attractive boss.

The processor on board is an 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, which brings a nice balance of power and energy use to give you what you need to get your work done and eight hours of battery life at the same time. Yes, eight hours is on the longer side of the netbook battery life spectrum.

The keyboard is 93 percent of standard-size, which is important for users who are going to type schoolwork, reports or just write a lot of emails. The memory in this system is a little light, but with the three built in USB ports you can more than make up for that with external (or USB stick) memory when you need to. This system is great for students and professionals alike.
